Years ago, while hiking the Appalachian Trail, near the Watauga Lake Dam, Rob came across what appeared to be Bigfoot tracks in the snow. It was one of those moments that stuck with him and years later, that memory would help inspire what became Bigfoot Mountain Vacation Rentals.
Originally, Rob simply wanted a mountain getaway of his own — a place where he could escape Florida, slow down and enjoy the peace of the mountains. After finding the property in Mountain City, Tennessee, he began turning that idea into reality.
Rob designed Bigfoot’s Lair from scratch and hired a local Mountain City contractor to help bring his vision to life. From purchasing the land and creating roads, to running utilities, tapping into a natural spring for water and finally building the first cabin, the entire project took nearly five years to complete.
During that time, Rob was still working full time in Florida as a professional detailer. He quickly realized he simply couldn’t get away often enough to enjoy the property as much as he had imagined.
That realization changed the plan.
Instead of building a cabin that would sit empty much of the year, Rob decided to create something other people could enjoy too — a private mountain retreat where couples could escape the everyday routine, reconnect, explore the mountains and make memories of their own.
That first cabin became Bigfoot’s Lair.
Today, Bigfoot’s Lair is only the beginning. The vision for Bigfoot Mountain Vacation Rentals is to continue creating unique mountain stays across the property, each designed to offer guests their own unforgettable experience in the mountains of Northeast Tennessee.
What started as one man’s dream of having a cabin in the mountains became a place meant to be shared.
